in their gallery space. The formats vary from very large to very small works all painted with a special wax emulsion on canvas, forex, wood and chipboard as well as paper on canvas. With this very ancient technique of wall paintings, wax is cooked with water and amalgameted to become a binder with the texture and colour of butter. After cooling pigment powder is added and thus becoming a paste ready for painting. The intense luminosity of the colours and their impact in conservating light enternally so to speak, is remarkable. While the previous themes were Italian landscapes (2001/02), then city views of Budapest in 2004 and, in 2007 land and city scapes of Malaga and sourrounding areas, for this show Heino Goeb got immersed into the sites in and around Leipzig. Bei recommendation of the gallerist Gerd Harry Lybke of Eigen+Art, he stayed von July until September 2009 in a studio of what used to be a cotten weaving industrial site in Leipzig-Plagwitz as part of an artist in residence programme. There he explored the changes of this part in Eastern Germany over the past 20 years and thus he produced a new body of works with buildings and landscapes of this area. The manageress of this 2 year old International Artist in Residence Programm (LIA Leipzig) is Anna-Louise Kratzsch, who will give an introductory speech at the opening. .....to create from these insignificant motifs pictures and, to help these poor bleak sights to overcome the flaw of being overlooked. This is what wears me up. To arrive from these no-name places to non-judgemental compositions and, when possible, to capture at least a little bit of beauty..... (Heino Goeb, text for Leipzig autumn tours in September 2009). ...Soljanka to go.. Also the Russian power soup we - the „wessies“ - still recall from the former transit routes, has modernised itself by being the Leipzig answer to the Berlin-Mitte-Latte. ...Heino Goeb’s pictures are positioned between the surreal symbolism of for instance the Leipzig painter Neo Rauch and the cold compositions of a Matthias Weischer who both have their studios at the former cotten weavery. He is giving, in his own words, these forgotten eastern places back its identity, uniqueness and integrity. These places don’t shine. They are quiet and deserted, like the land of Saxony that has to fight hard against the new economic and political climate The city of Leipzig, former metropolitan city, trade fair city and after Berlin one of the most important art locations in Germany. Heino Goeb is a artist from Germany, the new reunited Germany and, this is one of his Leipzig insights. He has gone over there to look and to learn.... (Christel Zelinski) Heino Goeb, born in 1952, studied von 1974-80 with Prof. Bluth und Tom Gramse painting in Kassel. The artist lives and works in Berlin and Malaga, Spain. He will be present at the opening. |
