The Gallery
Osterwalders Art Office was established in 1993 with the aim of
discovering, introducing and furthering emerging national and international
talent to the the art market as well as maintaining and furthering
established artists.
For private
and professional reasons there remains a strong connection with
the UK, which is reflected in the gallery programme. These include
the introduction of some prominent members of the YBA movement to
Germany and, presently engaging in the introduction and furthering
of a new emerging multicultural generation of UK-based artists. These
are either presented in the gallery space or public art spaces,
i.e. the exhibition Crown Jewels - Contemporary British Asian Artists
from London, which was shown in Hamburg, Kampnagel K3 and NGBK,
Berlin, with the support of the British Council.
In at least
6 shows a year the Gallery Osterwalders Art Office presents mainly
new works of the artists represented including at least one introduction
of a newcomer to the gallery. He or she is presented either for
the first time to the art market as their first gallery in Germany,
or in collaboration with other partners.
The gallery
space is located in a large upper ground floor mansion flat. It
is within easy reach of the galleries Vera Munro and Gabriele von
Loeper as well as the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Deichtorhallen.
