Centerfold is picking up on the body fragments of the previous show Raumaufnahme (taking up space) 18 months ago. The small animal – the victim – the hunted thing is becoming entangled with Dianas bosom.

History of evolution, where does it begin and, where does it end? Cell division – femail torso – cell division, can the femail body be newly seen? Is there a difference for a femail to address the femail body? I feel it from within my body, the surface reflects the felt body to the outside. Is this being recognised, Gerlach is asking.

Christiane Gerlach is working concentrated for a number of years on themes that interlock with each other. In her work the artist deals with the question of concreteness. Last but not least, because of the process of casting in her production a constructive link of out and inside forms are being addressed.

Her working materials are amongst others plaster and cement and her new material is bronze, which she uses for the first time in this show. But she is also experimenting with film, photography and painting to create her stories.

Idealised body – Little Venus. She is projection space – cover – filled with interpretations. Little Venus in typical posture – a classical woman torso? Golden bronze – perfect shine – hightend to the goddess status – fetish with shiny surface. Object of lust – untouchable –leaving a residue of fingeprints ............(Christiane Gerlach)
